Phi Lao Huong is a pioneer for Vietnamese kiting and surfing. He is one of the first locals to work in the kite industry in Mui Ne, Vietnam. And has represented his country more than once and in more than one discipline.  To find out more about this new additon to the Crazy Fly Team read below.

Question: What is you name and where are you from?

Phi Lao Huong, I’m from Mui Ne Vietnam, which is 200km north of Ho Chi Minh City.

Question: How long have you been kitesurfing for?

Phi: I started kitesurfing 9years ago. My brother Phong was the first Vietnamese person to learn to kitesurf and I was the third.

Question: What other sports are you involved in?

Soccer, Poker, Tennis, Surfing, Stand-up Paddle, Volleyball

Question: What is your job?

My job is teaching kitesurfing for the last seven years and I also have a Kite and Surf shop here in Mui Ne called the Ocean Shop. It is the first Vietnamese owned and operated surf shop.

Question: How long have you been Sponsored for ?

I was first sponsored for four years ago, but have been sponsored by Crazy Fly for the last year.

Question: What is your best achievement?

I have competed in the KTA (kiteboarding tour asia)2010. The Placed 3^rd overall. In the China round I won the Freestyle competition and second  in the race. Here in  the Vietnam round I was third in the freestyle and third in the race and the Philipines I was 4^th in the freestyle.

I have also represented Vietnam in the Asian games for surfing in 2009 at Bali.

Questions: It sounds like the ocean has been good to you?

Yes, I think if it wasn’t for kitesurfing I would be a fisherman like my father.

Question: Do you consider yourself a role model for younger people in your community?

I guess so, lots of the children here approach me to teach them kiting. I try and teach as may of the kids around here as possible. It is really good for the children to have access to so many kites here in Mui Ne. Lots kids are getting into the sport and it gives them lots more opportunities to get involved in tourism.

Question: What about your family, you talked about your brother Phong. Is all you family involved in kitesurfing in Mui Ne?

I have four brothers and we all kitesurf and work in the kitesurfing industry in Mui Ne.

Question: What are you goals for this year?

To introduce more Vietnamese people to kiting and surfing. To compete in the KTA again. I would also like to focus on racing and represent Vietnam in the Olympics should racing become an Olympic event in the future.

Question: On a final note is there anyone you would like to thank?

CrazyFly Shox Custom 2012 – New make up outside, great performance inside:

When comparing the CrazyFly Shox 2011 and 2012 the new version does not only immediately differ through its design, but also in its construction.

The new Shox received a double concave, great flex in the tips with some stiffness in its center. This has very important effects on the riding characteristics. The finish looks extremely stylish with the core shining through. The new Shox has an outstanding riding performance, almost being the best all-round board in CrazFly’s board selection. The new double concave shape gives the board great upwind and light wind performance, while still making the board looser compared to a single concave. The stiffness in the middle provides crazy pop to fly high, and the flexi tips offer nice comfort when going through chop.

Shox my favorite board, as I can use it perfectly to combine Freestyle, High Jumping and Freeriding. I can do anything with it, no matter if flying high, going into waves or just cruising around. It gives me everything I need! The new Shox does not only look good, it also rides good.

This has now been the forth time for me on the Maledives. I love coming here as hardly anywhere else I have this amazing feeling of vacation and fun combined with Kitesurfing. It was also the first CrazyFly Kite Camp so far, and this is always very exciting…

The 10 of us where on the Nautilus 2. The first few days were awesome with the wind, then it dropped and we went surfing and diving. The water ist hat turquoise as you know it form the pictures, and the wind blows as constant as if a fan would be creating it. The water is mirror flat behind all the little islands and lagoons, and the Maldives, a possible candidate for one of the World Wonders will just leave an unforgetable impression! The reefs surrounding the atolls provide with some of the cleanest waves I have ever seen on our planet.

A video will also follow the next days! I want to thank all the people who participated… I hope I see you all again soon!

I am home now for a couple of days and see what is coming up next… Lots of work is ahead of me, so always full on!

Janek Lisewski is going for a sole cruise across the Baltic Sea, from Świnoujście to Ystad (Sweden) on July 2011. Janek will use Crazy Fly MooWii kite for this cruise!!! Such journey requires an Iron Man alike shape, hundreds hours of training and also reliable gear. The challenge is: crossing the Baltic Sea on his kite – for a total distance of 90 nautical miles which is over 15 hours of sailing.

Janek’s main goal is to show that kitesurfers, just like mountaineers, can achieve impressive results. Achieving what was previously deemed to be impossible, setting new trends and directions, showing that one can overcome it’s weaknesses. Comparison to mountaineering is not coincidental. Janek is already planning new challenges in the Mediterranean, Red Sea and Aegean Sea.

The lonely kitesurfing voyage starts in Świnoujscie or nearby and continues towards the shores of Sweden around Ystad area. The whole journey should take around 12 to 15 hours. Passing 90 nautical miles is a big challenge that requires extremely good physical shape, mental preparation and weather condition. Janek Lisewski has been preparing himself for many months now. In his cruise Janek will use Crazy FlyMooWii kite!

If the weather forecast won’t change Janek will start his cruise this weekend!
